Spring is here and the snow has finally melted! Time to check out what's happening in in the gardens. Any leftovers from last fall?
Maggie, Gridley and I stopped by the community garden to explore. We found some exciting things. There were many carrots still frozen in the ground from last fall. Gridley was very excited and immediately wanted to know if we could eat them. We ate them later after a good scrub, and much to our surprise, they weren't the sweet, wintered- over carrot we expected. The largest carrot looked like a worm had made a little home out of it. Didn't eat that part. Gridley was thoroughly disgusted.
We moved the dirt around in the garden uncovering one of those white worms that eats everything! Gridley, thinking it was the worm that ate our carrot, wanted it OUT of the garden and fast. Later he drew a picture of it and the carrot.
The garlic we planted last fall is coming up. We'll remove the straw mulch next time. Nice to see some green.
