Flea Beetles

Flea beetles are devouring our community garden! They're all over our kale, turnips, broccoli and cauliflower. We've tried cayenne pepper. We've put straw around the plants because a man at the farmers market told us they don't like it. Gridley has a good idea that I think we'll try next. He's wondering if the little bugs might not like seeing a bigger bug in the garden, maybe one that we build! So, tomorrow's plan is to build a bug out of whatever we can find, one that is bigger than the flea beetles. Flea beetles measure about 1/16th of an inch, so the size challenge shouldn't be too difficult. Gridley is also pondering the possibility of a scarecrow. Hmmmm...

The gardens look good at home. We're eating lots of salad. We pulled some radishes yesterday with the help of Max, who lives next door. The peas are growing nicely, and the beans have sprouted.
